SIX DEGREES: HEIDI OF SPITFIREGIRL

Six Degrees Heidi Yager of Spitfiregirl featured on Capella Kincheloe Interior Design

Six Degrees is a series asking the same 15 questions of bloggers, business owners, and creative entrepreneurs.  Our communities have become larger and the world has become smaller.  It’s only a few steps from me to you to these fabulous humans I have featured today.

Heidi Yarger is Owner & Creative Director of Spitfiregirl - a collaborative design studio specializing in branding and identity, web design and packaging for emerging and established brands in the Wedding, Lifestyle, Fashion, Hospitality and Kids markets.  She is also the Editor and Co-Founder of SpitfireMom - a website dedicated to celebrating the juggle and hustle of being a mother and entrepreneur.

What should people not miss when visiting your town?

We moved to Denver last August after 15 years in San Francisco, so I’m still getting to know our new home. I think what draws people to Denver is the easy access to the mountains, which are really stunning. In the city, I’d suggest Washington Park (my hood!), Union Station, the Denver Art Museum, the RINO Art district and Larimer Square.

What motivates you?

Despite it’s ups and downs, I love being a business owner. I get so excited by the creative process - be it designing a website, helping consult a client or decorating my daughter’s nursery. Plus I love being my own boss.

What skill or talent do you wish you had?

Skill? hmm, perhaps being able to focus more...that and hand lettering! Talent? Oh, I wish I could REALLY dance - like, SYTYCD style. See, need.more.focus.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Being able to enjoy the calm and the storm of being a working mother, and spending more quality time with my husband.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy?

A House and new furnishings. Ok, and some new clothes too!

Go-to comfort food?

Mashed potatoes and gravy, cake and bundino

Favorite flavor?

Probably Lemon, since I love anything sour. Then Butterscotch and Caramel, and cheese.

What is your ideal work environment?

I’m pretty happy with my home office now, which allows me to be near my daughter while our nanny is here. I would eventually like an open, airy office out of the home, but for now this suits us just fine.

Who is your dream collaboration?

Oh gosh, do I have to pick just one? I would love to work with Anthropologie - our styles mesh very well, an amazing restaurateur would be fantastic, Diane Von Furstenberg, a great kids line...so many.

Person you'd like to switch bodies with for a day?

Cheesy as this may sound, I’m pretty certain being Beyonce for a day would be pretty fantastic. Then I could get to sing, dance and be a fashionista, all at the same time.

When do you pretend the most?

In my work I get to pretend all day, dreaming up concepts, colors, patterns and designs...and with my children, though they do a much better job of it than me.

Where would you like to have a second home?

I would love a house by the ocean in California. Being landlocked (and in high desert) I didn’t realize how much I missed the smell of the ocean.

In what conditions do you thrive?

I actually thrive under a bit of stress...some of my best ideas have come in that place. Also, I have gotten very good at unplugging on vacation. Note to self - go on more vacations.

Without using typical identifiers (ex: demographics, mom, wife, blogger, careers) how would you describe yourself?

I’m a creative, social, ambitious person who works hard to make her dreams come true. I’m also very loyal to friends and family.

What is your motto?

“If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough”
