5 THINGS PEOPLE DON’T WANT IN THEIR HOME

TEXTURED WALLS

Orange peel is beautiful, on an orange, not on your walls.  Today more and more people are going for smooth walls - more of a smooth plaster look.

FLUORESCENT LIGHTS

I know compact fluorescent lights (CFL) are great for energy savings and good for the planet.  They take a while to warm up and I still have not found a good alternative to the warm glow of incandescent light.  However, it's not really these CFL that I am speaking of here - though I would guess that all things being the same - no one would ever choose the harsh cast of CFLs- I am talking the industrial bulbs that light up supermarkets across the country.  I was lucky enough to grow up in a house where my dad when remodeling our home in the 90s thought that a fixture with 6 fluorescent tubes in the kitchen was a good idea.  Bad idea then, bad idea now.

FAKE PLANTS

Fake plants have come leaps and bounds in recent years.  Some are so good I actually have to touch them to  see if they are real or not.  But ultimately plants are good for your home and I'm going to go out on a limb here and say even those with the blackest thumbs would prefer real plants if they could keep them alive.

CLOSED FLOOR PLANS

No one ever wants to put more walls up.  No one ever says let's make a bunch of small rooms.  No one likes closed floor plans.  Light, bright and airy is current, not choppy and small.

YELLOW BRASS

Remember the lacquered yellow brass that adorned every house built in the 80s and 90s?  It scarred people so much that simply uttering the world brass still sends clients writhing.  In the past few years brass has come out from hiding, but not in that bright yellow lacquered finish that sent it packing in the first place.
