SIX DEGREES: MORGAN OF PEPPER DESIGN BLOG
Six Degrees is a series asking the same 15 questions of bloggers, business owners, and creative entrepreneurs. Our communities have become larger and the world has become smaller. It's only a few steps from me to you to these fabulous humans I have featured today.
Pepper Design Blog is a space where Morgan Spenla writes about her family's Spanish bungalow projects, cooking, motherhood and does some awesome tutorials and DIY projects. Morgan lives in San Diego with her two girls and husband. (She is also a fellow Trojan.)
What should people not miss when visiting your town?
There is nothing that I love more than being a tourist in my own home town of San Diego. I love to bring visitors to our beautiful Balboa Park (15 museums, beautiful gardens, a world-famous zoo, miles of walking trails...), over the bridge to Coronado island, for a walk along La Jolla shores to see the sea lions, to the tide pools of Cabrillo monument, out to dinner in the Gaslamp District, for a sail in San Diego Bay, or bluegrass brunch at Urban Solace on a Sunday morning.
What motivates you?
I'm motivated by my family and always by a personal drive to continue to grow.
What skill or talent do you wish you had?
I wish (so badly) that I could sing!
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
An unlimited amount of family and friends time, a job that I would be giddy to start every day, an abundance of cookies and cream ice cream (sans exercising), extra time with my girls on a regular basis.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would buy?
I suppose I'd consider an awesome vacation or a new home as our family grows :).
Go-to comfort food?
Macaroni and cheese.
Favorite flavor?
Does nutella count as a flavor? Also a fan of crunchy sea salt and how it enhances any flavor (with, I suppose, the exception of nutella...). OR homemade sorbet. That, for me, is the flavor of summer.
What is your ideal work environment?
A home office within ear shot of my children playing in the other room. It's the perfect balance of quiet alone time so that I can finish up big projects, but still with the feeling as though I'm engaged and involved in their little lives.
Who is your dream collaboration?
Better Homes & Gardens, we are working through a whole house home remodel so I'm constantly inspired by this particular magazine and its home features.
Person you'd like to switch bodies with for a day?
Martha Stewart (I dig her business brain and her empire attitude. Of course her craftiness is amazing too).
When do you pretend the most?
I suppose with my girls, but I'm not really a pretend play sort of person. Sometimes when I go on long walks around the neighborhood I envision what it would be like to live in a few of my favorite homes - what would I change, what would I embrace, what color would I paint the house...
Where would you like to have a second home?
We live in a magical city! I think I might choose a desolate, cabin-y second home if I had the opportunity.
In what conditions do you thrive?
When I'm working within my own schedule but with a big deadline looming. An exciting deadline.
Without using typical identifiers (ex: demographics, mom, wife, blogger, careers) how would you describe yourself? Empathetic, passionate, friendly and ambitious. I don't like to mess around.
What is your motto?
My philosophy is to be kind and to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
